Toyota's Beloved SUV Crossover is Available in Langhorne

Like the cargo space and high-sitting command of the road of an SUV, but need something that's easy to drive and park? Check out the Toyota RAV4 crossover we have here at Team Toyota of Langhorne.

The four-door, five-seat RAV4 has been one of our favorite Toyota models for years, and our customers throughout eastern Pennsylvania ask about it regularly. Take a closer look at the crossover that started the crossover trend, and it's easy to see why so many drivers love the RAV4.

The Toyota RAV4 Through the Years

The Toyota RAV4 has been one of the most popular cars on the road since it was first introduced in the United States more than two decades ago. The 1996 debut of the Toyota RAV4 signaled a switch in the way Americans shopped for cars as SUVs were becoming all the rage.

The 2.0L four-cylinder engine-equipped RAV4 was the first model in what would become known as the crossover genre. It was the perfect answer to what American drivers wanted - a vehicle with the utility, height, and storage of an SUV but the easy-to-drive characteristics of a car. The results were immediate, with the RAV4 quickly amassing a trophy case full of awards, including:

  • "Best of What's New" from Popular Science
  • "Best small SUV" from Consumer Reports
  • "Automobile of the Year" from Automobile
  • "Driver's Choice award - Best Mini-SUV" from Motor Week

In the decades that have followed the Toyota RAV4 has seen different styles and designs come and go, including a two-door version, a short-lived electric version, and a soft top semi-convertible. But, the RAV4 has shown no signs of slowing down with age and has continued to grow in popularity and collect awards.

Modern-Day Toyota RAV4

Today, the Toyota RAV4 is one of the bestselling cars available. The 2017 version of the RAV4 features all the latest amenities, tech, and safety features drivers want. New additions to the list of standard features include a ton of innovative driver assistance programs, such as:

  • Frontal crash mitigation
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic high beams
  • Adaptive cruise control

Plus, Toyota offers a fuel-sipping hybrid version of the RAV4. You can get all the personality and utility you love in a RAV4, but with the emissions-reducing technology of a hybrid.

RAV4 Trims

The current lineup of RAV4 trims consists of five options, including one that was added in model year 2017. The trim level lineup now includes:

  • LE
  • XLE
  • SE
  • Limited
  • Platinum (newest trim added for 2017)

All of the Toyota RAV4 models, with the exception of the hybrid version, come with a 176-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. Drivers also have the option of either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The RAV4 takes on the Competition

Despite all the Toyota RAV4 has going for it, it's still among the most crowded markets in the country. With so many other crossovers available, it's important to know how the RAV4 stands up to competition.

Toyota RAV4 vs. Honda CRV

  • Hybrid option. While the RAV4 offers drivers the option of a hybrid version, the Honda CRV does not have a hybrid in its lineup.
  • Fueling up. The Toyota RAV4 contains a gas tank that holds two gallons more than the Honda CRV, meaning less stops at the gas station for you.

Toyota RAV4 vs. Nissan Rogue

  • Power. Despite the fact that both the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue are similarly equipped, the RAV4 offers drivers a bit more power, with 176 horsepower compared to the Rogue's 170 horsepower.
  • Cargo space. The Toyota RAV4 can carry more stuff than the Nissan Rogue, with the RAV4 having a maximum storage capacity of 38.4 cubic feet with all seats in place, compared to the Rogue's maximum of just 32 cubic feet.

Toyota RAV4 vs. Ford Escape

  • Space. Both the Toyota RAV4 and the Ford Escape have similar overall measurements, but the RAV4 maximizes its interior space a bit better than the Escape. The RAV4 can carry more than 38 cubic feet of cargo with all seats in place, compared the Escape's 34 cubic feet. Also, with the rear seats folded down, the RAV4 can hold a maximum of 73.4 cubic feet, compared to the Escape's max of 68 cubic feet.
  • Engine options. The Ford Escape is not available as a hybrid, while the Toyota RAV4 is.
