New Toyota Camry in Langhorne

The Bestselling, Enduring, and Steadfast Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been a favorite with American drivers since it first premiered more than three decades ago. Here at Team Toyota of Langhorne the Camry sedan has been one of our top selling models for years, and it's easy to see why.

With the craftsmanship, high-end materials, and superb ride comfort of an expensive luxury car, the four-door sedan has a lot to offer Pennsylvania drivers. The Camry is a mid-sized car that seats five and has ample trunk and storage space to carry a lot of cargo. Plus, its family-friendly, easy-to-drive design make it a top pick for drivers who are looking for a car that's practical yet luxurious, and will last a long time.

Toyota Camry through the Years

Through the years that followed, the Camry took on many sizes and shapes. There were various styles, including a hatchback that morphed into a larger wagon in the early 1990's, and the two-door variant, the Solara coupe, which was also available as a convertible.

Originally, all Toyota Camry models were equipped with engines that were just four cylinders. However, a more powerful V6 was introduced on certain trim levels around the mid 1990's.

As perfect as the Camry is, however, if you're looking for an all-wheel drive version you may just be out of luck. Just one generation of this model in its lengthy history had an all-wheel drive option - the second generation which debuted in 1987 and was discontinued in 1991.

The Camry of Now and in the Future

Despite its age, the Camry shows no signs of slowing down. This is due in large part to Toyota's overall commitment at updating and refreshing the beloved model, including releasing an innovative hybrid version several years ago.

The 2017 version of the Camry is equipped with decidedly modern amenities and features, including a rearview backup camera, keyless entry, and automatic headlights.

2018 will mark the start of the eighth generation of the Camry, with a powertrain and body overhaul that includes a longer, shorter, and wider frame with a lower center of gravity. The most obvious cosmetic changes will be in the front end and grille, which has been redesigned to give the car a sportier and more beefed up vibe than previous generations.

Camry Trim Levels and Power

Even with all of the changes we are expecting with the 2018 version of the Camry, Toyota has announced that the trim levels for the new generation will remain the same as they were for the 2017 model year:

  • LE
  • XLE
  • SE
  • XSE

The base engine for the Toyota Camry remains the four-cylinder, with an optional 3.5-liter V6 available on upper trim levels. Both engines come paired to an automatic transmission.

The Toyota Camry Dominates the Competition

Despite all the Toyota Camry has to offer and despite its legions of loyal fans, we here at Team Toyota of Langhorne understand it's not the only sedan clambering for your attention. If you're torn between the reliable Toyota Camry and some of its similar-sized competitors, check out some of the research we've put together for you here. We hope it makes your decision-making process a little easier.

Toyota Camry vs. Honda Accord

  • Headroom. The Toyota Camry offers passengers more headroom than the Honda Accord, particularly in the rear seats.
  • Comfort. In test drives, many critics have shown preference for the seat quality and overall comfort of the Toyota Camry over the Honda Accord.
  • Technology. Toyota strives to give their customers more of what they want, and nowhere is that more obvious than in the technology and features they put into each model. The Camry has more high tech features and up-to-date amenities than drivers in a Honda Accord get.

Toyota Camry vs. Nissan Altima

  • Headroom. The Toyota Camry has more headroom inside the cabin than the Nissan Altima, especially for the passengers sitting in the backseats.
  • Hip room. The cabin of the Toyota Camry is designed to be a little more spacious than the Nissan Altima, translating into more hip room for people riding in both the front and the backseats.
  • Interior. In car-expert reviews, critics have declared the Nissan Altima as lagging behind the Toyota Camry in both technology and in seat quality and comfort.

Toyota Camry vs. Ford Fusion

  • Headroom. The Ford Fusion doesn't give passengers quite as much headroom inside the car as the Toyota Camry, especially in the backseat of the car.
  • Power and fuel economy. Not only does the Toyota Camry's base 4-cylinder engine offer more horsepower than that of the Ford Fusion, it also delivers better fuel economy. On average, the Camry receives around 24 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway, compared to the Fusion's 21 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.
  • Transmission. All of the engine options in the Ford Fusion are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. This is lacking behind the 2018 outing of the Toyota Camry, which will come with a standard, powerful, eight-speed automatic.
